The Sword of Division

March 18th, 2012

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

Matthew 10:34-36

That sword, that gleaming, shining sword, comes to divide.  Sharper, faster, more active.  When His sword comes, we cannot remain the same.

Until faith comes, a man’s thoughts are only opinion.  Until faith comes, we only have theories, speculations, and hypotheses.  But, when faith comes, it is the proof, it is the substance of the thing hoped for (Hebrews 11:1).

Do not suppose that you can remain neutral, for you must, eventually, love one and hate the other.  Surely, the flesh wars against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh, so that you do not do what you want, but those that are led by the Spirit are not under the law!

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

Hebrews 11:7 NIV

Noah’s very own faith condemned the world.  In his division of righteousness, because he believed, the world was guilty of its sin (John 15:22).  But, in his preaching, in his proclamation of truth, Noah damned the entire world.

But, oh, the sweetness of that sword, the excellency of that division.  Where before, we can wander in mediocrity, we can be a simmering pot, as the Word grows, there is no more opportunity to waver.  But, when life comes, when truth comes, it demands a verdict.

When all comes down, and faith stands, the flesh is stripped away.  When the falsehood comes and presses, and truth remains, the light gets brighter.

We must be of pure doctrine these days.  We must raise up His standard in this generation.  When truth comes, who will listen, but I must speak.

Truly, there is a generation arising that has not taste for the things above.  Weighed down by the cares of this life and a false spirituality, the true God, the living way, the Highest of High beckons.  And, it is only the purest preaching of the Word that must be proclaimed in this day.

We must pierce their ears with the ear shattering truth of the Word of God, that all men are sinners, and that there is none that are righteous.  We must boldly declare that there is one way, one truth, and one life, from a conviction borne of the unseen, brought forth into this world, being people from above who do not shirk back from the danger and the crush.

Surely, we must be first to step forth into the slaughter, and speak the Word of truth, that the tide might be stopped.  Even as the priests stepped first into the Jordan as they crossed into the Promised Land, that the waters might be stopped, and pile up that the nation might cross (Joshua 3:16).

But, the Word of God is true, and it is Eternal.  And, when it pierces, and when it divides, who can stand?  When that knife comes forth, and cuts away the possibilities, we are left face to face with a mirror Beyond compare, looking well into our own soul.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

For, a man can only have one master, and the Lord is enough, to sustain, provide, keep, and satisfy the soul of man.

For the truth, when allowed to grow, cuts through all else.  When there are no rocks, and there are no thorns, and the Word has taken root, it must  produce after its kind.  It’s life will find a way, even as mold within a crevice, even as fire amidst the stubble.

Come sword of the Lord, and cut me quick.  Cut me deep.  You alone are sweetness itself, and your Word is sure, and it is tried.  You are the Eternal, the Dominion, the Conquering King, and you are victorious in the ages, those here and those to come.

It is your flame, it is your Word, it is your Way that sustains, that brings life to men.  It is your covenant that keeps us, and it is your Eternal Word that is our light.

Speak, Lord, and make your Way plain.  Bring life to your word, and divide us again.  Let us see by your flame, the Eternal Life of which you spoke, and let it come forth, be it proclaimed, and let it great and glorious in our land.

No other life, no other hope, no other fountain, for in you alone, and for you alone and through you alone are all things.

All others are liar, theives, and killers, but you alone are True.  And, nothing in this world is for me.

But, that sure Word comes in, and your sure cuts deep, and it only takes a mustard seed, and your Word proves true.  For, by just one grain of faith, by one small crumb of you, do we prevail, and conquer, and take spoil.

You, Oh, Lord, are the Only one, and there shall be none that doth spoil.

For, when truth comes, all else must flee away, and when His light breaks forth, we are delivered.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

Psalm 24:3-4
